Preparing for Surgery
John Muir Health is committed to providing you with the very best care. To accomplish this, there are a few things you need to do before your stay with us.
Pre-Registration: All patients need to pre-register by scheduling an appointment to visit our pre-admission clinic in-person.
Clearance for Surgery: If you have a medical condition such as diabetes, heart disease, or lung problems and need medical clearance for surgery, please see your primary care physician at least two weeks prior to your surgery. If you do not have a primary care physician and need medical clearance or another consultation with a doctor before your procedure, please notify your surgeon.
Clinical Trials: If you are participating in a clinical research study and are coming to John Muir Health for a research-related procedure, please call Clinical Research at (925) 674-2580 prior to your arrival so we may go over details with you.
Advance Directives
You have the right to choose the medical treatment you want and to name someone you trust to make healthcare decisions for you should you become unable to do so. An advance directive is a legal statement that lets your doctor, family, and others know your treatment decisions in advance of you being unable to communicate them on your own.
If you do not already have an advance directive, you might want to consider creating one before your surgery. Learn more about health care advance directives
